A new class of environmentally safe wood preservatives is under development at Novaflux Technologies. Successful
molecular structures with the best overall potential as wood preservatives will be identified with the corresponding mechanisms
elaborated. Based on the results, developing integrated formulations and in-situ interfacial synthesis for incorporation into
wood will be included in future studies. The criteria for selecting a successful wood preservative are: biocidal activity against
relevant microorganisms, blocking enzymatic and chemical reaction leading to wood decay, toxicity, leachability, cost effectiveness,
impact on the environment and life cycle. The new class of wood preservatives is expected to capture a portion of the yearly sales of
wood preservatives that is estimated around $3.5 billion.
